Key Responsibilities

  1. Validate firmware bug fixes and evaluate performance of new firmware releases.
  2. Deploy firmware updates across Cloudflare’s global server fleet.
  3. Monitor firmware rollouts to ensure reliability and compliance.
  4. Coordinate with server and component vendors to obtain and debug updates.
  5. Work with Site Reliability Engineering teams to triage hardware issues.
  6. Support data center teams in resolving server and hardware failures.
  7. Develop and maintain automation tools for firmware updates.
  8. Maintain and improve processes for managing large hardware fleets.
  9. Communicate progress and outcomes through documentation, internal talks, and tickets.

Required Skills

  1. Knowledge of Linux systems and basic task automation.
  2. Experience with Bash and Python scripting.
  3. Understanding of x86 server hardware including CPUs, memory, storage, and firmware.
  4. Familiarity with server remote management tools such as IPMI and Redfish.
  5. Knowledge of configuration management principles.
  6. Understanding of running mission-critical production systems.
  7. Ability to collaborate across engineering, sourcing, and reliability teams.

Preferred Skills

  1. Experience with ARM-based server platforms.
  2. Exposure to managing large-scale server fleets.
  3. Experience debugging hardware faults and working with vendors.
  4. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  5. Experience with development tools like Git, Jira, Bitbucket, and CI pipelines.

Educational Qualification
