Role Overview
The Analytics Team in Bangalore plays a crucial role in implementing, maintaining, and supporting the calculation of Fair Value Adjustments (FVAs) and Prudent Value Adjustments (PVAs). These adjustments are essential for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting across HSBC’s global operations.
As a Trainee Analyst, you will have the opportunity to work with advanced mathematical models, cutting-edge financial technologies, and cross-functional teams to optimize risk assessment and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on your area of expertise and team assignment, you may work on:
1. XVA Team (Credit Valuation Adjustments)
- Enhancing and maintaining the Pegasus infrastructure behind CVA (Credit Valuation Adjustment), DVA (Debt Valuation Adjustment), and FFVA (Funding Fair Value Adjustment) calculations.
- Contributing to major regulatory projects such as Basel IV regulation on Standard Approach CVA, which involves significant infrastructure reorganization and data integration.
- Collaborating with global teams to ensure compliance with regulatory changes and evolving market standards.
2. OCS, Rates & Equity Team
- Maintaining C++ financial libraries used to compute reserves for Rates and Equity products.
- Implementing Bid-Offer reserves, Independent Price Verification (IPV), Prudent Valuation Adjustments (PVA), and Own Credit Spread (OCS) reserves.
- Developing algorithms for risk assessment and market value adjustments in real-time trading environments.
3. Credit & Liquidity Team
- Implementing credit spread Bid-Offer methodologies to enhance risk pricing and financial stability.
- Building models for Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) used to compute IFRS9 impairments.
- Developing frameworks for liquidity risk assessment used by Asset and Liability Management Committees (ALCM) and front-office trading teams.
4. Foreign Exchange (FX) Team
- Implementing and calibrating IPV, Bid-Offer, and PVAs for FX options using Python and C++.
- Developing risk-adjusted pricing models for currency derivatives in a high-frequency trading environment.
- Working closely with quantitative researchers and market risk analysts to optimize trading strategies.
5. Stress Testing Team
- Producing stressed estimates of XVA, FVA, and PVA under hypothetical market scenarios.
- Responding to regulatory stress testing requests, ensuring HSBC meets compliance standards.
- Developing machine-learning algorithms to predict risk exposure under volatile market conditions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills – ability to interpret complex data sets and derive meaningful insights.
- Proficiency in Python and/or C++ – coding experience in at least one of these languages is required.
- 1 to 4 years of professional coding experience in software development, data analytics, or financial modeling.
- A background in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Finance (preferred but not mandatory).
- Sound knowledge of financial mathematics, risk management, and derivatives pricing is an added advantage.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) to collaborate with global teams.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities – ability to think laterally and offer creative solutions.
- A keen sense of urgency – ability to meet deadlines and achieve results in a fast-paced environment.
